Brakes and servicing in Tilburg
Brakes and scheduled servicing are the work you think about least and notice most. We replace what is worn, leave what is still good, and tell you in advance which of the two it is.
Brake service
- Brake pads and discs replaced per axle, with a check of the guide pins.
- Callipers freed off or overhauled — a sticking calliper eats one pad and pulls the car to one side.
- Brake fluid change. Brake fluid absorbs moisture; with a high water content it boils under heavy braking and the pedal sinks. Guideline: every two years.
- Brake lines and hoses checked for rust, cracks and bulging.
- Handbrake adjustment — a common APK failure point.
- ABS faults read out and traced to their cause.
When to come in with your brakes
- Squealing or grinding when braking.
- The steering wheel or pedal vibrates when slowing from higher speed.
- The car pulls to one side under braking.
- The pedal feels soft or slowly sinks.
- The brake warning light or ABS light is on.
Scheduled servicing
- Oil and filter service with the oil the manufacturer specifies — viscosity and specification, not just "5W-30".
- Filters: air, fuel and cabin filter.
- Fluids checked and topped up: coolant, brake fluid, screen wash.
- Tyres — tread, pressure, wear pattern. Uneven wear points to alignment or suspension.
- Lighting, wipers and battery checked.
- Service interval reset and the work recorded.
Servicing without losing your warranty
Having your car serviced at an independent garage does not cost you the manufacturer's warranty, as long as it is done to the manufacturer's specification and can be demonstrated. We use parts and fluids that meet factory specification and record the work carried out, so you can always prove it.

Three brake complaints
- Squealing. A single squeal after a damp night is surface rust. If it squeals while driving or at every brake application, we look at the wear pattern on pad and disc and at the caliper slide pins. See squealing brakes: harmless or not.
- Vibration under braking. Do you feel it in the steering wheel or in the pedal? That distinction points to the front or the rear axle. We measure disc thickness and run-out. See vibration when braking.
- The car pulls to one side. Usually a sticking caliper on one side: one pad is then worn far further than the other. We free the caliper or recondition it — a new set of pads does not solve this.
What we replace and what we leave alone
Brakes are where too much gets replaced fastest. We stick to what is measurable:
- Discs are replaced when thickness drops below the manufacturer’s minimum, or when they are scored or warped. If the disc is still within spec, it stays on.
- Pads are replaced per axle at a time, never on one wheel.
- Brake fluid comes out on the basis of measured moisture content and age, not because a service happens to be due.
- Lines and hoses are replaced at corrosion, cracking or bulging — nothing to postpone there; it is also a well-known APK failure point.
- What can wait, you hear as well. You are told what has to be done now and what can go to the next service.
Servicing a lease car or company car
If you drive a lease car or a company car, your contract decides who pays for servicing and where it may be done. Check that before you go anywhere. We record the work carried out and use parts to manufacturer specification, so you can prove it to the leasing company or your employer. What such a contract usually says is in lease car: who pays for servicing; what servicing outside the dealer does to your factory warranty is explained separately.
Frequently asked questions
Do discs always have to be replaced along with the pads?
No. Only if the disc is below minimum thickness, scored or warped. If the disc is still good we replace only the pads — and we say so.
How often should brake fluid be changed?
As a guideline every two years. Brake fluid absorbs moisture; too much water lowers the boiling point and the pedal sinks under heavy braking.
Will I lose my manufacturer’s warranty by servicing here?
No, as long as the service is carried out to the manufacturer’s specification and recorded. We do both.
My brakes only squeal in the morning.
A light film of rust on the discs after a night outside squeals on the first brake application and then disappears. If it continues while driving, come in.
Can I have the brakes checked without anything being replaced?
Yes. You hear what we measured and what the values are. If nothing is wrong, we say so.
Are the brakes part of APK preparation?
Yes. During preparation we look at the points the test covers, brakes included. The test itself is then done at an RDW-approved inspection station.
