Car diagnostics in Tilburg

A fault code tells you which signal is wrong, not which part is broken. We read out all control units, compare live measured values and measure on the car itself — so that parts do not get replaced on a hunch.

What we do

Brand-specific where possible

For Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Škoda, SEAT, Peugeot, Citroën and Renault we have the original factory cable and software. That lets us see every control unit and carry out coding, adjust adaptation values and reset service intervals — work that is not possible with a universal scanner.

All other makes we read out with professional universal diagnostic equipment. Fault finding, servicing and repair we do for every make.

When diagnostics makes sense

Come in with the light still on

If you clear the fault code yourself, the freeze frame data goes with it — exactly the information showing when the fault occurred. That makes the search longer and therefore more expensive. Leave the light on and drive it to us. One exception: if the light is flashing, do not keep driving — that points to a misfire and can destroy the catalytic converter. Message or call us first.

OBD scan versus factory diagnostics

A universal OBD scanner reads the fault codes every manufacturer must make available — mostly emission related. That is a starting point, not a diagnosis. A code tells you which signal is out of range, not which part has failed: P0301 means a misfire on cylinder one, not „replace the spark plug”.

With original factory software we see four things a universal scanner does not show: all control units instead of just engine and emissions, live measurements while driving, actuation — we deliberately operate a valve or pump and measure what happens — and the coding and adaptation functions needed after a repair.

The practical difference is the order of work. With a universal scan the most likely part is often replaced; if that misses, the next part follows. We measure first and replace after. More in OBD scan vs. brand-specific diagnostics.

Makes we have the factory cable for

Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Škoda, SEAT, Peugeot, Citroën and Renault — nine makes for which we work with original equipment and software, including coding and adaptations.

For other makes we read via OBD and work with measurements on the vehicle. That is often enough to find the cause, but we do not promise dealer functions we do not have for that make. We are an independent garage, not a franchised dealer.

Four faults we see here every week

1. BMW 2.0d and 3.0d — rattle on a cold start. What we measure: valve timing values and the deviation between crankshaft and camshaft, plus listening with the engine cold. What usually comes out: a stretched timing chain or a worn tensioner. On these engines the chain sits at the back of the block, so postponing does not make the repair cheaper. Background: N47 and N57 timing chain.

2. VAG 1.2 and 1.4 TSI, 1.6 and 2.0 TDI — loss of power with a warning light. What we measure: boost pressure, EGR positions, particulate filter loading and fuel pressure values. What usually comes out: an EGR valve, a pressure control valve or a particulate filter that no longer regenerates. Background: EA189 and EA288.

3. Mercedes W205 and W213 — comfort faults and gearbox complaints. What we measure: all control units on the CAN bus, voltage drop at the earth points and the gearbox adaptations. What usually comes out: an earth point or a module disturbing the bus, or adaptations never written after an earlier repair. Background: W205 and W213 faults.

4. AdBlue and EGR — a warning light and a countdown to no-start. What we measure: NOx sensor values, dosing quantity, fluid level and the fault history. What usually comes out: a NOx sensor, a blocked dosing module or crystallisation in the line. The countdown keeps running while you drive — the sooner you come, the smaller the job. Background: AdBlue and SCR.

Frequently asked questions

Is reading codes the same as diagnosis?

No. A readout produces a fault code; that points to a signal, not automatically to a broken part. Diagnosis is what follows: comparing values and measuring on the car.

Can you also code after a repair?

Yes, for the makes where we have the original factory diagnostics. Coding, adaptations and service resets are part of the repair.

Another garage read my car and found nothing.

That happens with intermittent faults or with systems a universal scanner cannot see. We read out all control units and look at live values.

What does diagnostics cost?

It depends on the scope: a standard readout takes less time than tracing an intermittent fault. You get a quote up front.

Can I just have the car scanned?

You can, but know what you get: a scan gives fault codes, not a cause. We will tell you what the codes mean and what the next measurement step would be. If you want the fault solved, brand-specific diagnostics is the route.

Can I drop by without an appointment?

Call or message first. The tester has to be free and a lift has to be available; one message saves you a wasted trip to Tilburg.

Warning light on or a fault that keeps returning?
Have it read out and assessed — clearing the code solves nothing.
